World Trade Organisation

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is a critical intergovernmental organization. Its purpose is to regulate trade in the global marketplace. The WTO assures that trade will remain open and allows for negotiations when nations disagree on trade. Free trade is at the heart of the WTO, and therefore it primarily works to lower trade barriers as much as possible, although trade barriers are necessary in certain cases. The WTO also works to help developing nations expand their trading capabilities.
